Foundation Accountant, Lead
New Mexico State University (NMSU), New Mexico's flagship land-grant and space-grant institution, and the NMSU Foundation seek a highly-collaborative, thoughtful, and entrepreneurial professional to serve as Foundation Accountant, Lead. The Foundation Accountant, Lead will join a dedicated advancement team, contributing to the Foundation's growth, and will play a critical role in identifying opportunities to support NMSU community impact, especially for students and faculty. Responsible for complex central office accounting processes or advanced activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts and for developing financial statements and reports for the NMSU system. Will work with other Foundation staff to ensure prospects and donors are best served in their pursuit of helping the NMSU Aggie family reach their fullest potential. Roles & Responsibilities
* Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of over $15 million in gifts to the NMSU Foundation annually.
* Coordinate timely sale of Stock Gifts with 3rd Party Investment Advisor.
* Run monthly deficit cover and communicate results in a timely manner with Foundation leadership and University constituents.
* Reconcile assigned accounts for completeness and accuracy.
* Research IRS guidelines and FASB changes as to the impact they many have on revenue accounting for the Foundation.
* Merge Endowment cash transfers and process capital transfers as needed.
* Monitor Endowment accounts daily and reconcile investment activity to the GL.
* May need to manage and supervise staff.
* Coordinate Year End Pledge and revenue related PBC lists with external CPAs for tax preparation and year end audit.
* Reconciles related accounts for monthly and year-end closer related to cash deposits and revenue.
* Prepare journal entries to ensure accuracy of cash movement between the University and Foundation.
* Provide customer service to Development Officers and University Constituents.
* Research gift funds for Development Officers and College Administrators.
* Responsible for the tracking and proper revenue recognition of approximately $13 million in donor pledge balances.
* Provide audit support in related areas.
* Responsible for complex accounting processes or advanced activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts and for developing financial statements and reports.
* Provides functional advice or training to less-experienced accountant positions.
* Advises management regarding the effective use of resources and methods to maximize earnings.
* Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
